On October 13th, 2018, Lin Ye won 3rd prize in the Rina Sala Gallo International Piano Competition, where he performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto.
Wesley Skinner, cello, performed in our two Classical Cabaret programs this last July. Also an accomplished composer, Mr. Skinner won the 2017-2018 ariZoni Theater Award of Excellence in Original Music Composition for his score of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for TheaterWorks’ dramatic production, and has been invited back to compose for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in October 2018.
Arseniy Gusev, pianist and composer, won First Prize in the All Russian Competition of Works by Young Composers
Merav Eldan, mezzo-soprano, was awarded the Bushman Prize from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is returning from performing in Israel to sing in our October Musical Salon. This summer, she performed Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Miami Music Festival. The South Florida Classical Review raved, “…Eldan had the dark mezzo timbre for Hermia and the good looks and theatrical chops of a Hollywood diva.”
Renée Richardson, who you fell in love with at our July Cabaret Concerts, will be leaving Cleveland this fall to continue her opera training at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. This program offers tuition-free study for emerging opera stars. We wish Renée all the best with her career!
Gaddiel Dombrowner, who has conducted our chamber orchestra two years in a row, was a faculty conductor at Music Fest Perugia in Italy this summer. Gaddiel, who has conducted the M.U.S.i.C. International Chamber Orchestra for our past two benefit programs, also won 1st Prize and the Orchestra Prize in at a Ukrainian Piano Competition in November. He will return to Kiev in January to conduct a program of his choosing.
Katharina Kang, violin, won a position with the New York City Ballet orchestra
Michelle Abraham, violin, won the Assistant Concertmaster position for the Tucson Symphony.
Rixiang Huang has just won “First Prize” in the New York International Artists Piano Competition. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in October of 2016.
