Performer Biography
Jackson Naglick
A student of classical piano since age five, Jackson Naglick endeavors to give sincere,convincing performances and seeks an engaged and emotional connection with hisaudiences. Above all, he wants audience members to know that they are a valued andvital part of the classical concert experience. Jack enjoys incorporating brief educationallectures into his performances that enhance audience appreciation and understandingof the history and significance of the works.
Jack is currently an active student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he is in thestudio of Antonio Pompa-Baldi and pursuing his Bachelor of Music in PianoPerformance. He was also honored to be chosen as the recipient of the prestigiousGogolick Memorial Scholarship.
Since he began his first term at CIM in August 2022, Jack has taken advantage of manynew opportunities. He partners with violinist Jeremy Foster in the exciting Duo N.B.,performs regularly in string and woodwind ensembles, and has been a member of CIM’sOrchestra, Opera Orchestra, and New Music Ensemble. Jack also enjoys participatingin the Vocal Piano Partnership Program, in which he collaborates with several voicestudents.
Jack gave his first solo recital at age 10 for the Rochester Conservatory of Music. Hehas since been honored to perform a solo recital in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall inNew York City. He was also featured at the Piano Technicians Guild Annual Conventionin Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he performed a recital presented by the ShigeruKawai Piano Company. Jack made his orchestral debut as a piano soloist at age 13 with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and Maestra Sara Jobin. Throughout his career, Jack has enjoyed giving recitals in his home state of Michigan.
Jack is fortunate to have many musical endeavors that allow him to express hiscreativity. He gets much pleasure from composing and challenges himself to explorecontemporary and postmodern techniques, especially those involving freer ways ofnotating rhythm. He was an accomplished oboist and studied with Ann Lemke of Troy,Michigan for nine years. Jack was also inspired to explore classical vocal repertoire andenjoyed learning German, Italian, and English art songs.
An avid baseball fan, Jack admires the mechanics needed to throw a good curveball inmuch the same way that he admires the harmonies in a Rachmaninoff piano concerto.His physical conditioning pursuits include Peloton Power Zone cycling and table tennis.Jack also loves to escape into nature by foot or bicycle to experience the tranquility andjoy of birdwatching.
Jack has been grateful to study with inspiring teachers throughout his piano career, including Tatyana Richmond of Rochester, Michigan; Catherine Rollin of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Aviram Reichert of Seoul National University, and Israeli jazz pianist and composer Guy Mintus.
