Performer Biography
Martha Sprague, cello
Martha Sprague began studying cello at the age of 8 in Beijing, China. Her pre-college music education later moved to Seattle, Washington under the tutelage of Mara Finkelstein and Dr. Jared Ballance. Now a sophomore at the Cleveland Institute of Music, she studies with Sharon Robinson. Martha’s music has taken her all over the U.S. such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, where she studied with Paul Katz, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. She is the recipient of several honors, including the Christophe Chagnard Scholarship of the Northwest Sinfonietta and first prizewinner at the Alliance of Christian Musicians and the Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle solo competitions. At CIM, Martha plays in the Prometheus Trio with Maude Cloutier and Arseniy Gusev, which plays in the audition-only Advanced Piano Trio Program.
