Alejandro Rodriguez
Alejandro Rodriguez is a classical guitarist beginning a Professional Studies Diploma program at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Jason Vieux, a world-renowned guitarist and the youngest GFA winner.
Alejandro recently earned a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, under the instruction of Cuban virtuoso Rene Izquierdo. He was born in Mexico City and moved to Houston, Texas in 2006 due to his father’s job. Alejandro began learning the guitar in 2006 and explored genres such as rock, blues, and gypsy jazz. However, it was not until 2014 when he finally began studying classical guitar with Nicaraguan guitarist and pedagogue Dr. Isaac Bustos at Texas A&M University. He graduated with a BA in Music in May 2016, and during his time at A&M he competed for the first time in a guitar duo at the Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Competition and won first prize. Since then, Alejandro has worked committedly towards having a career as a professional guitarist. He has participated in several competitions in the United States, including the Classical Minds Competition, Appalachian State Guitar Competition, Indiana Guitar competition, and has been a finalist at the 2017 Wilson Center Guitar Competition, and the 2018 Schubert Club Competition, where he received honorable mention. He has also performed at masterclasses with renowned guitarists like Aniello Desiderio, Adam Holzman, Alvaro Pierri, Zoran Dukic, Matt Palmer, Raphaella Smits, among others.
