Zhi Qiao, Pianist

Zhi QiaoZhi Qiao was born in Anyang, Henan Province, China on September 28, 1989. He began his piano studies at 7 years old with his father. From 2000 to 2003, Qiao studied at the Music Primary School of Wuhan Conservatory of Music with Associate Professor Lianping Zhu and Department Director Liping Jiang. From 2003 to 2009, he attended the Music School attached to The Central Conservatory of Music of China, where he was admitted as an outstanding student, and studied with Associate Professor Xinning Zhang. While there he also studied piano duet and trio works, and accompanied many performances.

In December 2002 Qiao won the third class Award of his Junior group in the Tchaikovsky Piano Contest in Hong Kong, China. In October 2002 he won the Excellence Award in the Ninth China New Talent. Qiao also participated in the Second Beijing International Music Ambassador Summer Camp in August of 2006. In August 2007 he attended the Mannes International Keyboard Festival. Currently, Qiao is studying piano performance at The Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Professor Peter Takacs. Qiao was selected by the Oberlin piano department in the 2011 Danenberg Honors Recital Competition to perform at Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In the same year he was chosen as one of the winners in the conservatory’s sophomore piano jury.
