Sergein Yap, a native of Miami, Florida, currently studies viola with Lynne Ramsey. Sergein will be attending Rice University in the fall to pursue his Master of Music degree, studying with James Dunham. Sergein received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Jeffrey Irvine and Lynne Ramsey.
Prior to returning to Cleveland, Sergein studied with Martha Katz at the New England Conservatory. Sergein has attended summer programs at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Eastern Music Festival, ENCORE School for Strings, the Heifetz International Music Institute, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School, the Perlman Music Program, and the Sarasota Music Festival.
Other teachers include Heidi Castleman, Thomas Riebl, Karen Ritscher, Masumi Rostad, Robert Vernon, Barbara Westphal, and Richard Fleischman at the New World School of the Arts. Sergein has worked with members of the Audubon, Brentano, Cavani, Cleveland, Concord, Daedalus, Juilliard, Mendelssohn, Miami, Orion, Pacifica and St. Lawrence string quartets.
