Biography: Sarah Toy

Born in Fairfax, Virginia, Sarah Toy began studying the viola at the age of nine through the Fairfax County Public Schools’ strings program.  An avid chamber musician, Ms. Toy was a founding member of the Commodore Quartet, with whom she was featured as a musical guest on NPR’s Says You!.  As a chamber musician, Sarah has presented numerous educational programs in the greater Cleveland area and has worked with Peter Salaff, Robert McDonald, and members of the Juilliard, Brentano, Tokyo, Emerson, and Cavani String Quartets.

Ms. Toy holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she completed her studies under the tutelage of Jeffrey Irvine.  Past teachers and mentors include Karen Ritscher and Tsuna Sakamoto.  Summer festivals include Spoleto Festival USA, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and School, Banff Centre Chamber Music Residency, and Bowdoin International Music Festival.
