Biography: Rebecca Kuo Konow

Rebecca Kuo Konow, a native of Taiwan, began her study of cello at age eight and went on to win several prizes from regional and national competitions. From 2011-2013, Rebecca served as section cellist in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and was involved in the Civic Engagement Ensemble where she worked intensively with the Chicago Public Schools and youth development. Prior to working at the Rainey Institute, an El Sistema after school program in Cleveland, Rebecca was on the faculty of the People’s Music School, also an El Sistema program in Chicago. Rebecca completed her Master of Music degree in cello performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at the Cleveland Institute of Music with cello studies under Stephen Geber and Suzuki pedagogue Melissa Kraut. Rebecca has been involved with numerous music festivals including: Asian Youth Orchestra (2007), Kirishima Music Festival in Japan (2008), International Orchestra Institute in Maryland (2012), Texas Music Festival (2013) and the National Repertory Orchestra (2014). She works with students of all ages throughout the Cleveland area and is certified for all levels of the Suzuki method. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two kitties as well as swimming.
