Minneapolis native, Nellie Freed is in her final year at the Oberlin Conservatory where she studies viola under the tutelage of Peter Slowik. Other influential teachers include Sam Bergman, Liz Chang, and Karen Dreyfus. Nellie has been coached by members of the Chiara String Quartet, the Brentano String Quartet, and the Pacifica String Quartet. Deeply committed to sharing her love of music, Nellie is a devoted teacher. She has worked with CommunityMusic Works, a music school in Providence RI where students receive instruments, lessons, and group music classes free of charge. She is also on staff at Greenwood Music Camp, a chamber music program in the Berkshires, where she began as a student.
