Meng Yuan is a pianist from Xi’an, China, 18 years old. She first amazed audiences with her surprising talent in her debut performance as a solo pianist when just ten years old. With her fierce intensity and unusual sensitivity, Ms. Yuan’s artistry was recognized early, and she was admitted to the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Young Artist Program in 2014. While it was a hardship for Ms. Yuan to leave home and family as a teenager to study abroad for two years, it paid off in the refinement and development of her artistry, and Ms. Yuan is now “lucky and thrilled” to be able to continue at CIM, where she is studying piano under the tutelage of Daniel Shapiro. Ms. Yuan also enjoys musical theatre. In 2016, she was the music director and pianist for Montessori High School’s production of The Fantasticks.
