Biography: Katharina Kang

Katharina Kang attended the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf as a pre-college student with Rosa Fain. She received her Bachelor of Music with Pinchas Zukerman and Patinka Kopec at the Manhattan School of Music. She continued her studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Jaime Laredo, where she achieved her Artist Diploma. Ms. Kang returned to the Manhattan School of Music and graduated as Master of Music in Viola, again with Pinchas Zukerman.

As violinist, Katharina Kang has performed with leading orchestras in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall – Moscow, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Historic Concert Hall Wuppertal, Grieg Hall in Bergen, Baltimore Symphony Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, and other philharmonic halls in Essen, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, New York, and Tel Aviv. Ms. Kang has workd with conductors as Dmitrij Kitajenko, Kirill Petrenko, Toshiyuki Kamioka, Christoph Alstädt, Ingo Ernst Reihl, Arnold Katz, Alondra de la Parra, Ruben Gazarian, and Neemi Jarvi. Her performances include collaborations with Pinchas Zukerman, Mathias Tacke (Vermeer Quartet), Midori Goto, Frans Helmersson, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet), and many other renowned artists.

In 2018, Ms Kang was appointed Principal Violist at the New York City Ballet Orchestra. Katharina Kang plays a Jean Baptiste Villaume (Paris 1864).
