Julian Machala is a native of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He began playing the violin at the age of three and has since added the viola to his skill set. Julian plays regularly with various Northeast Ohio orchestras and was recently appointed Concertmaster of the Solon Philharmonic Orchestra. His teachers include Cyrus Forough, Sibbi Bernhardson, and Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance.
Julian’s teaching style is calm and focused. He teaches with an interactive method that emphasizes relaxation and ease of movement; by identifying the different ways that students create tension within their own bodies, he works with them to create habits that eliminate strain. He places special emphasis on intonation, rhythm, and movement to achieve the best possible sound.
