Joseph Hauer, from Appleton, WI, is a junior at Oberlin Conservatory studying with Peter Takács. His former teachers include Catherine Kautsky, Kyung Kim, Catherine Walby, and Charlene Reitz. He has participated in the Golandsky Institute Summer Symposium at Princeton University, PianoSummer at New Paltz, NY, and Pianofest in the Hamptons. He has soloed with the Fox Valley Symphony, the Madison Symphony Orchestra, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. His performances have been broadcast statewide on Wisconsin Public Television. In January 2012, he performed Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with a student orchestra at Oberlin. In March 2012, Joseph performed Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major with his trio at a house concert in New York City as a result of auditioning for the Danenberg Honors recital at Oberlin.
Joseph attends Oberlin on a full scholarship from the Miller Family Music Education Scholarship of Appleton, WI. His other interests include jazz piano, Russian, racquetball, and snowboarding.
