A Steinway Young Artist, Chelsea de Souza is currently a senior at Oberlin College & Conservatory, pursuing a Bachelors of Music in piano performance and vocal accompanying under Peter Takàcs and a Bachelors of Arts in International Politics.
Chelsea has completed her LTCL (Licentiate Diploma) from the Trinity College of Music, London. She has won 4 All-India piano competitions, 1st prize at the Ohio State level piano competition in Akron and was the top prize-winner in the 2009 IIYM International Piano Competition in Kansas, USA. She was interviewed on NBC TV and performed live on Kansas Public Radio. She has given concerts in Belgium, Germany and USA and has performed as a soloist with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. She has been on three consecutive summer music scholarships to study with Prof. Sheila Arnold from the Hochschule fur Musik in Koln, Germany.
Chelsea received a full scholarship to attend the 2013 PianoFest summer festival in the Hamptons, and was selected as one of 24 pianists from all over the world for a month of masterclasses and performances with internationally renowned musicians at PianoTexas 2014. She has played for internationally lauded musicians including Maestro Zubin Mehta, Leon Fleisher and Sir András Schiff.
Most recently, Chelsea won the Oberlin Conservatory Senior Concerto Competition, performing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Oberlin Orchestra in May 2016.
Chelsea’s concert tours in India have earned her high praise in India’s premier newspapers. She also enjoys singing, accompanying, chamber music and collaborations in pop and jazz. She is the co-director and arranger of Oberlin’s oldest all-female a cappella group, ‘Nothing but Treble’ and teaches piano in her spare time.
